To obtain the desired amount of water, place the following amount of osmosis water in a container, and add the recommended quantities of Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 in sequence, keeping the water moving with a pump and waiting for a few seconds between one addition and the other so that the solution returns limpid.

Oceanlife Water Salinity Converter
This software allows you to convert basic marine water data between different units of measurement. The data is calculated at the surface.
- The direct calculation from Salinity (‰ - ppt) to Density (g/l or kg/m3) / Specific Gravity is based on the equation adopted by UNESCO - The One Atmosphere International Equation of the State of Seawater (Millero and Poisson, 1981).
- The inverse calculation, from Specific Density / Gravity to Salinity, is performed by the solution for iterative methods of the reverse equation of Millero and Poisson.
- The calculation from Conductivity to Salinity / Density / Gravity Specification is performed according to the complex polynomial equation adopted by UNESCO/ICES/SCOR/IAPSO. In this case, the values are reliable for the resulting salinity between 2 and 42 and a temperature between -2 °C and 35 °C.
- The Conductivity calculation is performed through the solution for iterative methods of the reverse equation adopted by UNESCO/ICES/SCOR/IAPSO.
- Salinity values are expressed in "Practical Salinity" (?)
(usually it is equal to the temperature of the sea water)
PSU (g/kg - ppt - ‰)
g/l (value read on the densimeter) (?)
(value read on the refractometer) (?)
mS/cm (value read on the conductivity meter)
Use of this conversion utility is free but if you want support our work, make a donation and help us continue our research work:

Simple Test: Potassium
Instructions:
- Add 5 ml of reagent K to the vial.
- Place the vial on the black symbol of the seagull on the sheet.
- Fill the 1 ml syringe with 1 ml of aquarium water and, looking at about 25 cm away, add drop by drop into the vial. Shake gently after each drop waiting for a few moments the formation of turbidity.
- Stop adding only when it is no longer possible to see the
seagull symbol. If after the first syringe it is still possible
see the symbol, repeat the previous point.
ppm (mg/l)
Simple Test: Magnesium
Instructions:
- Add 5 ml of aquarium water to the first vial and add 7 drops of MG reagent 1. Stir gently for 15 seconds.
- Add 1 spoon of MG 2 reagent and shake gently until completely dissolved.
- Take with the first syringe (red) of 1 ml, 1 ml of MG 3 reagent and slowly add to the first test vial until the solution passes from cyclamen to blue, passing through the violet. Wait 1 minute to check the stability of the color change.
- Read and note the value reported on the first syringe.
Example: 0,85
- Add 5 ml of aquarium water into the second tube and add 1 spoon of MG 2 reagent and shake gently until completely dissolved.
- Take with the second syringe (blue) 1 ml, 1 ml of MG 4 reagent and slowly add to the second vial until the solution passes from cyclamen to blue-blue, passing through the violet. Wait 30 seconds to check the stability of the color change.
- Read and note the value reported on the second syringe.
Example: 0,15

Simple Test: Calcium
Instructions:
Marine Aquarium:- Add 5 ml of aquarium water into the vial.
- Add 10 drops of the CA 1 reagent and shake gently for 10 seconds.
- Add 1 teaspoon of AC reagent 2 and shake gently until complete dissolution.
- (Syringe n.1) Fill the syringe with 1 ml of CA 3 reagent and add slowly. Shake gently. If the solution changes color now, the measured water has less than 250 mg/l of calcium.
- (Syringe n.2)
Fill the syringe again with 1 ml of CA 3 reagent and add stirring after each drop. When the solution changes color from purple to blue, read the value of the CA 3 reagent syringe and insert it in the field below.
- (Syringe n.3) If the color variation has not occurred, fill it again syringe with 1 ml of CA 3 reagent and add stirring after each drop. When the solution changes color from purple to blue, read the value of the CA 3 reagent syringe and insert it in the field below.
- Add 10 ml of aquarium water into the vial.
- Add 10 drops of the CA 1 reagent and shake gently for 10 seconds.
- Add 1 teaspoon of AC reagent 2 and shake gently until completely dissolved.
- (Syringe n.1) Fill the syringe with 1 ml of CA 3 reagent and add slowly, shaking after each drop. When the solution changes color from purple to blue, read the value of the CA 3 reagent syringe and insert it in the field below.
- (Syringe n.2) If the color variation has not occurred, fill it again syringe with 1 ml of CA 3 reagent and add stirring after each drop. When the solution changes color from purple to blue, read the value of the CA 3 reagent syringe and insert it in the field below.
